What are these warning labels on my product (California Prop 65)?

What is a “tambour”?
That is the actual rolltop cover mechanism itself on our desks and their racks. HSA has over two decades of design and manufacturing experience creating heavy-duty wood and stainless steel locking tambours to secure audio/video, control, security and IT electronics. All wooden rolltop tambours include our standard lock. Rack-width through 56" table width products have one lock per Rolltop tambour. Rolltop tambours for desks 68" and wider have 2 locks. Desks ordered with the Stainless Steel Package option include 2 heavy-duty ILS/Institutional-grade locks (removeable re-keyable cores) per desk rolltop tambour and 1 ILS lock for any rack width products. Stainless Steel package option available only on desk bodies 68" wide or less (internal, left-to-right measurement).

What are the most frequently missed options on an order?
Modesty Panels, to cover the lower rear of a desk when needed, and the several variations of our PLUS4/PLUS5 extra height options to enable equipment to fit are sometimes overlooked. If the desk will be "out in the open" or exposed, you might want the Modesty Panel option. Be sure to measure your equipment, especially the mixing console, and check our dimensioned photos and spec sheets, to see if you need to have the additional clearance from the PLUS4/PLUS5 family of extra height options.

What does a Modesty Panel do?
The removable Modesty Panel option (which is included ONLY with the Inspire Series Desks) covers the lower, rear (that is, the side opposite of the seated operator) of the desk. It is simply to finish off the desk rear, covering it from where the upper solid back ends and down to the floor, if a desk is entirely exposed. It shields the “undertable” area that may contain cables, supplies and the operator's legs from view. If a desk is facing away from view, or against a barrier, it may not be needed or wanted. Modesty Panels are an option on all desk except for the Inspire Series, where they are already included due to the open nature beneath the desk (Inspire desk have no undermounted racks).

What do the “PLUS” type options do?
The PLUS4 & PLUS5 extra height options (and all the variations such as INPLUS4, HRPLUS5, etc) add extra overall height to a desk. Importantly, this extra height begins at the table surface, which remains at 25.75” from the floor, and goes “up”. The extra height, then, creates additional clearance between the table surface and the underside of the desk's main rolltop tambour. This extra clearance is to accommodate, for instance, taller mixing consoles or to give additional height when used with the VIDEOBAY option for video monitors. As an example, the Inspire Extended Rolltop (item code INSEXT-II) has 9.00” of vertical height clearance between the table and underside of the rolltop tambour. Adding the INPLUS5 option changes that clearance to 14.00” and the overall desk height to 41.625”. Also, on the Inspire Series, any of the Inspire Sideracks included are increased in height to match and additional rack rail length included.

What is an Accessway Option for?
The optional Rear Accessway provides a cutout or multiple cutouts (depending on desk size and construction) in the structural upper rear panel of the desk. The Rear Accessway Option is completely covered with a finished panel (similar to a modesty panel and finished to match the desk) secured with truss head Philips screws for easy removal. The Rear Accessway Option provides easier access to the connector fields in the back of mixing consoles in situations where the console and/or associated equipment is large, heavy, immovable. In many situations, the option is not needed, but that is a personal preference based on how you intend to operate the system or the type and physical arrangement or your equipment and wiring. The Rear Accessway Option is included on all "High Rise" style Inspire Series Desks due to the height of the large sideracks. A special "add-on" price is available for the Rear Accessway Option on the "Low-Profile" Inspire Desks when you also order them with the INPLUS4 or INSPLUS5 option.

Are Accessibility options available?
Similar to the “PLUS” type options which add height starting above the desk's table top, the TABLEACC option adds 3” of height starting under its table, pushing the desk height up an extra 3” total, thus providing 28” of clearance (rather than the normal 25”) from the floor to the underside of that table. The option also pushes back the under-table transverse brace to 19” measured from the table's front edge and increases the height and capacity of any included undermounted or sideracks. Call or email to discuss the TABLEACC option as it is quoted on a design by design basis and dependent on the correct combinations of models, options and configurations.

What is meant by “Families” of desks? Can desks be “combined” together?
All HSA desk are “related” like families to each other in some way in order to match up desks and racks for multi-desk workcenters. Desks are either 34” deep (the Standard family) or 39.125” deep (the Extended family). These are external dimensions. They can also be sub-grouped into a Low- Profile (flat top) desk family such as the Standard Rolltop or Super Extended Rolltop, the High Rise family which are normally 44.75” tall and “angled back” such as the High Rise Standard or Rolltop Custom Quad. Low-profile Standard family desks are 35.25” tall while low-profile Extended family desks are 36.625” tall. The Inspire Series changes from the undermounted 10RU rack to a matching height and depth siderack within any of those four family combinations. Lastly there are the special Desktop versions of the Standard and Extended depths, and the Low-Profile and High Rise style desk families. By picking desks (and options) from the same families, you can match up multiple desks and racks into large, custom workcenter designs. ALL table surfaces are normally at 25.75” from the floor on ALL desks (except the Desktop versions). You can also apply our DEPTH34 or DEPTH39 options to adjust desk and rack front-to-back depths to help match up multi-piece systems.

Are the Inspire Series Sideracks separate from the desk?
Yes they are! The Inspire Series is a value-priced combination of an independent desk body and one or two separate Inspire sideracks and certain options. The racks can be positioned as shown in our photos and drawings or anywhere else as needed. They also can be ordered to be bolted together as is necessary when placed on a RollBase option. Additional Inspire Racks or Inspire Desk Bodies can be ordered to create, large multi-desk/multi-rack control centers.

What's the difference between a "RollBase" and Casters?
Casters are an option on our DR&TR Executive Racks, RollRacks, SlantRollRacks, Classic Racks and PR Series Racks. The Caster options for these bolt directly to the flat, structural bottom of those models. RollBases, however, are a little different. We've designed the RollBases to be a support platform for the large desks so that their weight can be better distributed depending upon the configuration of the desk (undermounted racks, sideracks, no racks). Our new independent RollBase components are designed to allow greater operator comfort and accessibility yet provide better support than previous designs. Caster options and RollBase options are both available in 2" side-brake casters or 4" heavy-duty dual-braked casters. RollBases add 3.75" to overall height of a desk using the 2" caster versions or add 6.00" overall height with the 4" caster versions. Finished in durable Black Matte High Pressure Laminate.

The trucker drove up with our order, wants me to sign, and is in a hurry to leave – What do I do?
Everyone wants to get their job “over and done with” but YOU need enough time to do your job the right way too. We've timed it, and it takes maybe about 5 minutes to cut the protective clear wrap, remove corners and packing, and INSPECT your HSA desk shipment. Just follow what it says to do on our packaging and labeling. Have the driver stay for the handful of minutes it takes. Make sure it arrived safe and sound BEFORE you agree that it is by signing the receipt.

Can You tell me the ship date for the order I just placed?
With the unique nature of our product, and it being produced on an order-by-order basis, HSA can only provide and estimate of a time range when the order is placed. The only estimate that you should use is the one from your dealer provided on their Order Authorization Sheet when they've finalized an order with HSA. But we will always ship as soon as your order is shippable, even if quite earlier than the estimated range (unless you ask us not to and have your dealer note that on their purchase order to us). Conversely, since it's an estimate, a few orders may exceed the original end date somewhat. We try our very best not to let that happen.

I'm looking at desks & options but can't seem to find what I need for my design – help!!!
No problem! Give your HSA Dealer a call or email to discuss where the sticking point of the design is. HSA has lots and lots of desk and option combinations that can be put together in literally 1000's of ways. It's actually pretty easy, but we all have days of “not seeing the forest for the trees”. If you're not already working with a dealer, give HSA a call or email - we'd be happy to help you with your HSA configuration and suggest a Dealer to work with!

California Prop 65 Product Notification & Warning Labels
California’s Proposition 65 is a law passed in the 1980’s to protect California drinking water. Its scope has evolved and expanded into much more, and now requires manufacturers to notify California residents of even tiny amounts of over 800 listed chemicals or substances, many of which are common or naturally occurring. Some of these chemicals requiring the warning you may know about or have seen in the news such as BPA, Diesel Exhaust, arsenic or asbestos. Others on the list, that require the same notification warnings, are aspirin, aloe vera, caffeic acid (found in cinnamon, sunflowers seeds, and coffee) and wood dust.

Because of the law’s very low risk levels (for example, a 1 in 100,000 chance of developing cancer over a 70 year lifetime of exposure to a substance), many manufacturers have decided to add the “Prop 65” warning message on all products regardless of the amounts of the substances or where they are sold.

The safety of our customers, employees and community is HSA’s commitment and we label our Fine Wood Furnishings for Audio & Video with a Prop 65 warning for both Wood Dust and Lead. First, wood dust, since there is a possibility of wood dust adhering to our products after manufacture, and second, lead, as there is a possibility of a small amount of lead being present in the brass of keys and lock assemblies.

HSA was one of the “early adopters” of environmentally friendly, water-based finishes in the 1990’s and our hardwood veneer core wood panels are sustainably sourced. We will continue to produce the most beautiful, securable, highest quality Audio/Video roll top desks, equipment racks and presentation furniture, with attention to your safety, and the safety of the environment, always in the forefront.

What is an Open Series Workstation?

HSA's Open Series Workstations were developed for those wanting one of HSA's legendary A/V desks without our trademark roll top enclosure. The Open Series Work Station is beautiful, high quality and is available in a variety of finish options. It is also perfect for your A/V needs while allowing for ease of access, when security is not an issue. The Open Series Workstation can also be customized, as can most of HSA's existing products.
